Prizes and rosettes for all participants, with special awards for different winners THE COURSE Ibthorpe Manor Farm is a working stud, where we breed Sports Horses and ponies, so there are always foals to play with, and possibly even to see being born! We also have sheep and bantams (small chickens), as well as four very friendly dogs. The aim of our childrens’ holidays is to give each child an excellent riding experience in a traditional English environment, with the emphasis on improving riding skills, plenty of outdoor play and activities, making friends and having fun. Lucinda Sims and her daughter Olivia teach children with great skill and care, and will make sure each gets the most out of their lessons. Every child will be taught to their own level of ability, and teaching will cover flatwork, poles and jumping. Lucinda is the expert on the secure jumping lower leg, so to be taught by a former British Event Team member who knows how to stay on, is something very special indeed. On site we have a small cross-country course, a grass schooling area and access to a 60m all-weather school. We are also surrounded by some of the best down land riding in Southern England. Every day will also include an outdoor teaching hack, where jockeys will continue to be taught as they ride through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Eva then teaches stable management, from plaiting to tack cleaning, so everyone is aware of what they need too do to keep their horse happy and healthy. We normally have a visit from our local vet to talk through common pony problems, and sometimes even a visit from one of our local 3 Day event riders to talk about jumping round the cross-country course at Badminton: we try to make every day different and interesting. Afternoon activities often take us away from horses, but we want to encourage all those who stay with us to embrace nature and learn something new about the countryside every day that they are with us, so we try to introduce our guests to as much of the natural beauty surrounding us. Our emphasise is very much to include your child in our farm life, so they may find themselves looking for eggs, or bottle feeding a lamb: we want the whole holiday to be memorable for them. PROGRAMME Residential Junior Jockeys should arrive on the Sunday of their course, after 3pm. The course finishes at 2pm, after lunch on the Friday of the week. All parents and siblings are invited to attend the final BBQ lunch if they can. The riding programme takes place Monday – Friday. However, should your child wish to arrive earlier or later in the weekend, we can entertain them. If there is a horse show in which we or Lucinda are participating in, we will take them to that. There are also some great water sports centres close by, and plenty of nature centres and local interest sites as well. Non-Residential Junior Jockeys should arrive at Ibthorpe everyday at 830am, with collection at 545pm, after supper but before evening activities start. We would strongly recommend that all visiting ponies stay on site, for a small additional fee: this will prevent extra long days for the jockey (and parent!) SUPERVISION All Junior Jockeys will be supervised by experienced child minders. Eva Militzke, who is half English/ German, came to us 4 years ago from Germany, having previously run a children’s day care centre and a riding school. Eva is in charge of the day to day running of the children’s activities, and will be the course ‘Mother’. ACCOMMODATION All residential Junior Jockeys will live in the main house. There are three rooms with bunk or twin beds, and each ‘pair’ will share a bathroom. The Jockeys will eat in the main family kitchen or in the garden (depending on weather) and will also have a common room where they can play games, read and relax. If the weather is fine, we encourage outdoor play as much as possible. If wet, we have the largest thatched threshing barn in Hampshire, where indoor games, table tennis, painting etc can take place. FOOD All food is either locally produced or produced by ourselves, and all is prepared in the house kitchen. We can cater for most food intolerances/ allergies. There are no sweets or chocolate on site, but there is a village shop a short walk away, and we will accompany children should they have pocket money and your approval to buy goodies. INSURANCE All Junior Jockeys must have fully comprehensive activity holiday insurance. Please ensure that your policy includes riding, including jumping.
